Maps
The crop time-series maps were based on Alberta's Annual Soil Surveys Reports. Based on information extracted from these reports, Barry Adams of the Government of Alberta, Dr. Jim Robertson of the University of Alberta, and Dr. Brad Stelfox of Forem Technologies, were able to reconstruct the time series using 50 x 50 km grid cells. When the grid turns on (becomes yellow for the first time), it refers to the first 5 year interval that cultivation took place within the grid. It does not mean that the entire grid was cultivated during that period. The last image (2005) illustrates the current distribution of cultivation in Alberta.
